Eneko Besa is a lecturer in Design Projects at IDarte, School of Art and Design in Vitoria-Gasteiz. His research is focused mainly on methodology. On the one hand, project methodology. But also, on the methodology of teaching projects.

In terms of this second aspect, applying the book’s conclusions in the field of teaching provided the following research path:

Article 1: Project workshop course approach.

Article 2: Project workshop day-to-day teaching dynamics.

This book approaches the question of methodology in architecture by focusing its analysis mainly on 5 specific contemporary works and attempts to reveal their ultimate motivation.

KAZUYO SEJIMA (+ Nishizawa + SANAA), House in a Plum Orchard in Tokyo.

FRANK O. GEHRY, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

ALVARO SIZA, Mimesis Museum in Paju Book City.

REM KOOLHAAS, The Dutch Embassy in Berlin.

PETER ZUMTHOR, Kolumba Museum in Cologne.

The object and the architectural work are thus considered to be the elements capable of offering the material knowledge to unravel the manner and methodology by which they were conceived.

This particular approach challenges traditional studies that have understood methodology as a universal or regulated system, as in this case, the purpose is to clarify the foundations and principles that underlie each more specific architectural object. For its part, the epilogue complements the specific character of the previous chapters, as it dares to advance with a certain conclusive will towards the definition of the most substantial principles of methodology in architecture today.

This work differs from scientific-historical research. Using them as a support, this study opens the way for future research focused specifically on project methodology in architecture.
