An evening to bring together the different design and creativity actors in Bilbao-Bizkaia. A way of starting this process of active listening to the ecosystem together, which this year is proposed with ERRESONANTZIA. An invitation to begin to vibrate with the programme of activities to enjoy over the next 10 days. A meeting that helps to influence us towards being open to establishing symbiotic and mutualistic relations, both between the creative sectors themselves and with other economic and social spheres.
BELARRIREKIA will begin by immersing us in a sensory experience led by Rubén Rámila. Amalio Rey will be responsible for the keynote address, talking about design and creativity as exercises in collective intelligence, based on deep listening to the context and the ecosystem, as something not so much individual, but collective, polyphonic, from which a common echo emerges. We will hear the echo of the diversity of experiences of the professionals of the local ecosystem, through four cases: Maraka team will suggest that we listen to the users; Laurita Siles from Mutur Beltz will focus on the environment; Paula Cabo from Cala Creative Studio will help us to perceive what the materials tell us, and we will listen to the sound itself being designed with Sara Lenzi. Alex Filiatreau from Apitropik will present the Disoinua What does design sound like? project, a research/exhibition produced by the BIDC, to find out how design is understood socially, how it vibrates in the streets and how people feel it in their everyday lives; and he will also propose a small participatory activity to gather the impressions of those present. And finally, Mikel Arce will introduce us to the work done specifically by 4th year Installations and Sound Space students from the Faculty of Fine Arts’ Department of Sculpture and Art and Technology at the UPV-EHU, which can be enjoyed that day in the Cúpula Hall. Vanessa Sánchez will accompany us, acting as the guiding thread throughout the session. Furthermore, there will be some time to socialise, listen to each other and network between 8pm and 9.30pm.

OPENING THE SENSES TO DEEP LISTENING
Two sensory experiences that will serve as a prelude and interlude to the opening of BBDW22. An exercise on "sonification of the universe", a concept being developed by a group of blind people from the world of astrophysics, who have found a way to put sound to that vast, seemingly empty and silent space. And an activity based on sensology and the division of the brain between hemispheres, between physical and sensory memory, between the intellectual and the bodily. Two ways to influence us towards collective resonance.
Rubén Rámila is a social educator, anthropologist and expert in sensory sciences. His work is applied to design and accessibility, mainly in museums and exhibitions for the visually impaired, highlighting the use of other senses.
COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE AND DESIGN, A TWO-WAY RELATIONSHIP
The increasing complexity of the world can only be addressed through co-creation and co-production, involving diverse actors and harnessing distributed talent. But design processes, both in many companies and in public institutions, are still based on vertical and control-conscious logics. This makes it difficult to design taking advantage of the opportunities offered by Collective Intelligence to address the emergent, the experimental or the unexpected.
In this talk Amalio Rey will discuss the two-way relationship between design and Collective Intelligence: how Collective Intelligence can contribute to making design more representative, genuine and satisfying; and how design can help make participatory architecture and the result of this Collective Intelligence more effective and affective.
Amalio Rey is the author of "The Book of Collective Intelligence". He is a recognised expert in Innovation and Collective Intelligence management. He is a researcher, trainer, artisan consultant and lecturer, a leading specialist in the design of participatory architectures and their effective scaling. He defines himself, above all, as a facilitator of participatory processes. He has helped to create innovation ecosystems in Spain and in several Latin American countries. He shares reflections, experiences and knowledge in two blogs, one personal, amaliorey.com and another specialising in collective intelligence, collectiveintelligenceblog.com. RETHINKING NEW MODELS OF FARMHOUSE FROM THE CREATIVE EXPERIENCE
This talk is part of our pedagogical, research and informative work carried out by the Mutur Beltz project on the idea of rethinking new models of farmhouse from the creative experience.
Mutur Beltz is a life project to promote the Carranzana sheep, currently an endangered species, as well as the shepherd's profession itself. This local initiative in the Carranza Valley in Bizkaia attempts to address the loss of this know-how through agroecology, artistic practice and design. One of our objectives is to revalue the wool of these sheep as a raw material, thus reducing environmental impact. The aim is to empower sustainable know-how, trades and techniques, participating in the conservation and renovation of local heritage.
We will take advantage of this event to present our Mutur Zapatak, a limited edition of slippers made from the wool of our sheep.
Laurita Siles is an artist and researcher born in Marbella in 1981. She obtained a PhD Cum Laude from the University of the Basque Country in 2017. She is concerned about the territory; from the environmental crisis, to the nostalgia caused by the loss of roots. She now lives in Karrantza, (Bizkaia) and is a co-founding member of the Mutur Beltz project, carrying out her activity in "Mutur beltz - sorgin baserria"; from creation, design, cultural management and domestic tasks. She has carried out a number of diverse kinds of individual and joint activities, in different parts of the world: exhibitions, actions, visual projections, conferences, etc.
NEW PERSPECTIVES, CMF AND MATERIALS INNOVATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
The talk will try to present the disciplines of CMF Design, which are still relatively unknown in many sectors, that focus on the development of colour, material and finishing strategies and how this discipline generates innovation in materials as a business strategy to improve the sustainability of our products and interiors.
Paula Cabo Lalanne is a product designer specialised in CMF Design. As CMF Designer, she works on defining new aesthetic strategies through innovation in materials and textiles. Specialised in the field of colour and sustainability, she works on the visual, tactile and decorative design of the products and interiors of the future.
LISTENING TO UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER: SOUND AS A DIALOGUE BETWEEN HUMAN AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCES
Whether we are aware of it or not, we are increasingly relying on Artificial Intelligence systems, which collect and interpret an enormous amount of data, the scale of which we could not otherwise manage and which closely affect our individual and collective daily lives. But how do we communicate with these Artificial Intelligences? Can we trust their judgement? Through use cases involving internet networks, aqueducts, cybersecurity and rainforest sounds, we will hear how sound design can help humans regain responsibility for decision making.
Sara Lenzi is a sound designer with two decades of experience. She is the creator of immersive and product experiences for brands like Ducati, BMW, Singapore Airport, Citibank, Art Science Museum Singapore, and an activist for the importance of listening. Since 2018, she has focused mainly on research. With a PhD in Design from Milan Polytechnic, she is a researcher in the Department of Human-Centred Design at the Technical University of Delft, Netherlands. She co-directed the organisation of the Design Research Society Conference 2022 in Bilbao and is co-founder of the Data Sonification Archive.
DISOINUA, WHAT DOES “SOUND” SOUND LIKE?
As part of the BBDW22 programme, a field exploration has been carried out to discover what design sounds like in Bilbao, how it vibrates in the streets, how people feel it in their everyday lives. To this end, several people who have posted an ad on Wallapop including the word "design" have been interviewed, along with local businesses that use it in their signage, in order to understand what design means for these people, how they experience it and how they define it. Through this process, an exhibition will be created and held in Abando Station of Metro Bilbao, from November 10th to 27th, where you will find shared stories and reflections that have emerged with the people who write and sell "design" in the city. However, it should be noted that everyone has a unique perspective on design. And what’s yours?

A small approach to sound art and the spatial and dimensional forms of representation of sound and its listening, resonances, echoes... A way of situating the experimental pieces that can be heard-seen-felt in the Cúpula Hall, created specifically for BELARRIREKIA by 4th year "Installations and Sound Space” students from the Faculty of Fine Arts’ Department of Sculpture and Art and Technology at the UPV-EHU.
Mikel Arce is an artist, with a PhD in Fine Arts from the UPV-EHU, where he lectures, teaching subjects like "Installations and Sound Space”, whose students are participating in this BBDW22. His field of work is Sound Art, investigating and experimenting with the artistic resources and possibilities of the spatial and dimensional properties of sound.
Vanessa Sánchez Goñi is a journalist with 20 years of experience in ETB as a correspondent in Paris and Beijing, and news presenter. In China, she felt the need to reconnect with her roots and re-establish herself professionally. Once home, she created Walk on the Basque Side to showcase the Basque Country as a private guide. Her routes include that of Lasierra, the village in Alava where she lives, which is still alive thanks to the fact that it has been able to reinvent itself through the initiative of its inhabitants. For example, in 2021 they created the first energy community in the Basque Country to generate and self-manage clean energy.
